Meet Andrea Mantegna, a North Italian Renaissance painter, a student of Roman archeology, and son in law of Jacopo Bellini. About 1450 he completed an altarpiece for the church of Santa Lucia, which immediately established his reputation. Later he studied the works of Donatello in Florence and Castagno in Venice and mastered the newly developed techniques of perspective.
